In an age of direct download sites, BitTorrent and WordPress, using FTP to transfer files to another person or to a website may seem old fashioned, but it remains surprisingly popular. The free FileZilla is one of the simplest and most effective ways to use FTP, to the point that there's little reason looking for a paid alternative.
For basic use, FileZilla couldn't be simpler: once you've logged in to the remote server, it's nothing more complicated than the drag and drop that will be familiar to anyone whose used Windows Explorer or its Mac/Linux equivalents.

There are some neat features to enhance use, such as being able to transfer a batch of files simultaneously or work with several servers at once. You can also continue to browse the server while a file is transferring, which reduces frustration.

Home users who are subject to download limits and "traffic shaping" can set up the program so that it restricts transfer speeds at particular times of day. This can also be useful at any time if you want to make sure you can still use the web while transferring. Sadly there isn't a simple option for scheduling a transfer to start at a later time.

It's worth noting that some of the more advanced security settings on the program aren't switched on by default, so it's worth taking a look round the options menus if you are transferring any sensitive data.

Dropbox makes sharing files easy.  You can invite your friends, family and teammates to any folder in your Dropbox, and it'll be as if the data was saved right to their computers. You can send people links to specific files in your Dropbox if sharing an entire folder isn't appropriate. This makes Dropbox perfect for team projects, sharing party photos with friends, or any number of file sharing needs.

If your computer has any kind of meltdown, and you lose EVERYTHING, don't worry. Dropbox has you covered.  You can use Dropbox to restore all the data from your backup folders in a snap. It's perfect for hard drive upgrades and computer rebuilds.

Pro’s: Free, 2GB to start, up to 16GB free space

Con’s: No premium options between 2GB and 50GB, Dropbox for Teams is EXPENSIVE

Conclusion: Dropbox is a premium service, meaning that they really want you to buy space on their servers so they can charge you for their services.  While you can get a decent backup with the 2-5GB that is easy to get from them by getting your family and friends to sign up based on a referral note you send them, make no mistake, Dropbox is a paid service.

As such, you can buy 50GB or 100GB of space, but that's about it. If for some reason you want less than that, say somewhere between 10 to 49GB of space, the option doesn't exist. Getting the larger amounts of free space isn't easy, as many friends or family members may not want to sign up or may already have accounts, and there's no other way to get additional space other than referrals. You can also buy undelete and file versioning services as well.

BitTorrent’s motto ‘Give and you shall receive’ says it all. The purpose of BitTorrent is to distribute large media files to private users and it does this in true P2P style: the user does the file serving. To use it you need an internet connection and the BitTorrent software which works by swarming and tracking. Swarming splits large files into smaller pieces and shares them across many linked users. The tracking servers monitor the swarm users and help them find each other. If you share your files you will be allocated increased download speeds, but if you limit your upload sharing you will find your download speed choked. 
BitTorrent is an up-to-date file sharing service. In recent releases it has been rebranded from its sibling µTorrent. The latest version is 7.6 which has a well-received user interface, easy to use controls, and good integration with Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X, though we only used it with Windows. 
BitTorrent comes with a separate product, BitTorrent DNA – Delivery Network Accelerator - which helps it to spread the content being swarmed and thus speed up the entire download. 
In addition you can search for torrents to download (which gets you to the BitTorrent search engine), adjust your upload and download rates to suit, customise the user interface and view statistical information – which shows what is happening in the background, peer and seed connections. 

Pros: Multiple concurrent downloads, control over bandwidth so that you can work on your computer without disruption

Cons: I can’t think of any cons, it is generally simple, stable and well-appointed. 
Conclusion: BitTorrent is a popular part of the torrent scene. The product has improved with each new release and is now a mature product with all that that entails. The website is well-assembled with good help and useful forums for support. 

The application is free, although there is a chargeable version which includes anti-virus, file conversion, secure access.

For me, apps like this can make or break my ability help friends and family as well as do my job.
The biggest thing here, is that the app doesn't require any installation in order to be used. Put it on your PC and go. That's it. You get a secure, fast, easy way to control a remote PC that can easily get past NAT and firewalls. It also has built in voice chat and a file manager that will allow you to grab files and talk to friends and family as you try to give them a hand.
Ammyy Admin offers a great deal and the price is more than right. Plainly put, the app is a winner.
